Dr. Prasanna M Mujumdar is a Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at IIT Bombay, with about 35 years of teaching and R&D experience. He has held the position of Deputy Director (Finance & External Affairs) of the Institute from 2015 to 2021. He was Dean (Research & Development) at IIT Bombay from 2012 to 2015, heading the Industrial Research & Consultancy Centre (IRCC). He was the Head of the Aerospace Engineering Department from 2008 to 2011.
Prof. Mujumdar joined as a faculty member at IIT Bombay in September 1986 after obtaining his B. Tech, M. Tech and Ph.D. degrees, all in the field of Aeronautical Engineering, from IIT Bombay. His specialization within the field is in the broad area of Aerospace Structures. His expertise and research interests include Structural Stability, Vibration & Structural Dynamics, Aeroelasticity & Aeroservoelasticity, Composite Structures, Multidisciplinary Design Optimization, Smart Structures and Structural Health Monitoring. Prof. Mujumdar has been a member of the core group of faculties responsible for initiating, developing and sustaining the Centre for Aerospace Systems Design & Engineering (CASDE) and its activities since 1998, with funding from the Aeronautics Research & Development Board (AR&DB), Govt of India. He has been awarded the AR&DB Silver Jubilee Research Excellence Award, Excellence in Teaching Award of the Aeronautical Society of India, the IIT Bombay Teaching Excellence Award, and the Hotchand and Jamuna Lala Excellence in Teaching Award.
